If you're tempted to buy a suede item but are hesitant due to maintenance concerns, go ahead and treat yourself! La Canadienne is here to help, guide, and advise you. Whether at home or with a professional, for a simple stain or a deep clean, let's start by following Aurea's 3 commandments for easily maintaining your favorite suede piece.
TACKLING STAINS ON YOUR SUEDE GARMENTS
Grease Stains
To treat stains on your suede garment, there's nothing more effective than fuller's earth. The greatest ally of suede, fuller's earth will absorb all grease or liquid stains. It's important to apply it as quickly as possible before the stain spreads too much, and leave it on for 12 to 24 hours for optimal absorption.
Good to know: suede is a material in its natural state, without any "makeup," unlike leather. This is precisely why suede can be degreased very easily.
Rain Stains
Your suede garment will accompany you on all your adventures. We recommend waterproofing your garment with a waterproofing spray to combat rainy days. To do this, spray your garment evenly and let it rest.
If you get caught in light rain, remove excess water with a clean cloth and brush the stains with a special brush. Most importantly, never dry your garment near a heat source (sun, radiator, hairdryer, etc.).
Good to know: the sun is suede's false friend. Be careful about discoloration of your suede garment in cars or behind a window.
LONG-TERM CARE FOR YOUR SUEDE GARMENTS
Regularly brush the surface of your garment with a crepe brush to remove dust, debris, and various dirt.
To maintain your favorite suede garment and keep it for as long as possible, we also encourage you to entrust it to a professional. Drop it off once a year at the La Canadienne store nearest you for degreasing.
Good to know: purchasing a suede garment from La Canadienne also guarantees a durable purchase over time, available after-sales service, and access to a repair workshop.
