Its story began across the Atlantic, in the United States, before appearing in Europe in the 1960s. Here's a brief overview to understand how the Perfecto, initially dedicated to the biker community, became the iconic fashion jacket we know today.

Renowned for manufacturing functional and sturdy clothing, this garment is attributed to the Schott brand. The Perfecto was created in 1928 by Irving Schott, at the request of Harley Davidson to protect motorcyclists from the elements. It was designed and produced for this purpose and features:

• a slanted and offset zipper, doubling the thickness of the leather

• zippered cuffs

• a buckled belt at the waist

• snaps on the collar to hold it down.

The History of the Leather Perfecto

A tribute to Irving Schott's favorite Cuban cigars, the famous biker jacket was named Perfecto. In the 1950s, Hollywood cinema brought it into the spotlight in mythical films such as Rebel Without a Cause with James Dean. Then in Grease with Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta. The Perfecto then experienced tremendous success! From then on, associated with a decidedly Rock 'n' Roll and rebellious spirit, the jacket was adopted by the punk movement, notably by the band The Ramones, who customized it. Pins and studs then adorned the collar of the garment. Originally a masculine piece, the Perfecto jacket became an object of social protest. Girls embraced it to assert gender equality and a desire for emancipation. The Perfecto has crossed eras and communities; it is no longer just a matter for bikers: it is becoming democratized! 30 years later, the rebellious dimension of the Perfecto has diminished.
